Historic Ranch, Inc. was incorporated in 1999 after six years of planning and familiarizing itself to the unique community of Rancho Santa Fe, 22 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. Gene Magre, founder of Historic Ranch, Inc., developed an immense interest in learning more about this romantic, aesthetic, and historical environment and began providing the residents of the “Covenant” in Rancho Santa Fe an opportunity to take advantage of everything this unusual residential oasis has to offer. Since his arrival to Rancho Santa Fe, Magre has been passionately dedicated to assist others in their journey to understand this amazing and diverse community that is known around the world.
In October 2007, the Witch Creek wildfires ravaged Southern California. Magre lost two homes that night and watched all his possessions burn to ash while he saved his horses from danger. Gene then turned this tragedy into a positive by rebuilding one of the homes in a completely unique and innovative way. He built the entire home backwards and saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in the building process as well as reducing the building time to 8 months. Gene Magre is a 20-year resident of Rancho Santa Fe, an ongoing member of the local Historical Society, a Lily Award recipient in 2000, a licensed contractor in California and the owner, buyer and seller of dozens of homes in the area. Historic Ranch has earned a reputation for excellence in the community and has been written about in several newspapers across Southern California. Several times over the years, Gene has been recognized for his love of the community and efforts to preserve its historic ambiance.
